Beschrijving
De Mirage 2000 is ontstaan uit de Franse luchtmacht wens voor een Future Combat Aircraft (ACF) ter vervanging van de verouderde Mirage III. Door de nederlaag van de Mirage F.1 op de General Dynamics F-16 als tactische jager voor de NAVO, ontwikkelde Dassault twee nieuwe toestellen, de tweemotorige Super Mirage en een eenmotorige ontwerp op basis van de Mirage III. De Franse luchtmacht vond de Super Mirage te duur waarop alleen de eenmotorige variant, de Mirage 2000, verder werd ontwikkeld.
